The term OLD FLORIDA generally denotes the way it was at least two generations ago, from the 1950s and earlier.
For me as an artist, it brings to light a feeling, a style, an essence - a heart-tugging pull to a simpler, freer life.
I have always been drawn to and inspired by Highwaymen Paintings. Artists like Harold Newton, Sam Newton, Al Black, and Alfred Hair as well as others, closely portray the impression I have in my mind's eye that is begging for expression in my own work.
This new collection is a departure from my signature style of vibrant colors. Instead, I utilize a blend of sepia tones and muted color which gives the imagery the appearance of an old hand-tinted photograph.
